2a. Cultivating Respectful and
Affirming Environments

"Courage" Morning
Meeting Unit

Having a morning meeting is important to create a respectful environment and to help your students get to know each other. This will allow us to set the tone for the day and what the expectations for behavior are in our classroom. Attached below is the "I Am" my 4th grade student teaching class created based on our Random Acts of Kindness "Courage Unit."

Displaying Student Work
in the Classroom/Hallway

When students take pride in their work and see it hung in the classroom or in the hallway, it motivated them to put forth their best work AND contribute to the classroom environment. Attached below is a photo of our "Fraction Tumblers" that we made while practicing comparing fractions that are hung in the hallway outside our classroom.

2c. Maintaining Purposeful
Environments

Effectively Using Non-Instructional
Time: Classroom Jobs

Having classroom jobs or responsibilities for your students allows them to have consistent responsibilities and also assists the teacher and other professionals in the classroom. This allows the teacher to flow through instruction with large gaps for passing out or organizing materials for students. Some of the classroom jobs I have seen in my 4th grade student teaching placement and plan to implement are: charger checker for devices, lunch counter, teachers assistant (pass out papers, sharpen pencils, etc.). These are done at the beginning, during, and at the end of the school day based on needs of the classroom.
 

2d. Supporting Positive
Student Behavior

Positive Behavior Support Plan (PBSP) for a Student with Autism

Based on a student in our field placement, a PBSP was created based on the students' behavioral needs in the classroom. In my autism support placement, this student was working on these specific behaviors and had active goals. This PBSP is based on my observations and knowledge of the student.

2e. Organizing Spaces
for Learning

Allow Flexible Seating During Lessons and Independent Activities

Allowing students to move out of their seats and around the room may improve their experience in the learning environment. Allowing students to move forward and sit at the small group table, on the carpet allows them to be more of an active participator and active learner.
